A tomada de decisão compartilhada e sua aplicação a pessoas com demência

A tomada de decisão compartilhada vem adquirindo mais espaço dentro por representar um modelo conciliador entre o conhecimento profissional e o direito do indivíduo se autodeterminar. Este artigo propõe o debate sobre a utilização da tomada decisão compartilhada para pacientes com demência. Tais pacientes tendem a ser considerados incapazes, sendo comum a designação de substitutos para a tomada de decisão. No entanto, há relatos consistentes na literatura que essas pessoas não estão impossibilitadas de expressar necessidades e referências. Vários fatores são destacados como capazes de influenciar o maior ou menor envolvimento destes indivíduos, deste o estágio da doença, características do cuidador como idade e grau de parentesco, e o tipo de decisão a ser tomada. Conclui-se que, a tomada de decisão compartilhada pode representar potente ferramenta, oferecendo a possibilidade destes indivíduos exercerem sua autonomia pessoal, o que trará melhores desfechos para profissional e paciente.
