Abstract

In the area of social work, approaches that place an emphasis on people’s strengths are becoming increasingly important. This success owes much to their ability to contribute to reinforcing the profile of Social Work as both a discipline and a career. The focus on strengths, empowerment and resilience provides a new scenario that can help practitioners better implement and assess processes of change while working with people in intervention processes, and hence offers
a fresh perspective on people and their environment. This article discusses these concepts and assesses some of their implications in professional practice.
