Abstract

The author's experiences in indigenous communities and the relevance of community psychology in areas of extreme poverty are explored. The importance of alternative education that promotes the development and active participation of the inhabitants is highlighted. Psychology is considered fundamental to understand and improve living conditions. In conclusion, a collaborative approach that empowers communities in their own development is proposed.
