When we immerse ourselves in the work of Joseph Ratzinger, the surprise is twofold. First, because the idea of gift and gratuity appeared before us again and again and, moreover, with great continuity. Second, because we believed that this sensitivity had not been sufficiently addressed in the numerous studies on his figure and thought, not even after his pontifical election, when the work on the subject has multiplied exponentially.
