La crisis institucional de la eurozona: nacimiento, evolución y reacción política

Resumen

Este artículo estudia la crisis de la eurozona del período 2009-2014 desde una perspectiva institucional. Se analiza la literatura sobre áreas monetarias y se compara el diseño de la zona euro con el óptimo teórico. El análisis empírico de los credit default swaps muestra que el inadecuado diseño institucional de la eurozona favoreció el contagio de las diferentes crisis nacionales en el período 2009-2012. Se estudian, además, las reformas puestas en marcha entre 2012 y 2014, así como las propuestas electorales realizadas en el marco de las elecciones europeas de mayo de 2014.
