Abstract

In this paper, immigration is considered under the perspective of how immigrants use and perceive the domestic space, since this question is the key to understand the way immigrants incorporate into the receiving society. In the European societies, newcomers usually place themselves where the society lets them, which is to say in urban areas with bad living conditions. However, progressively, immigrants develope strategies to adapt their expectations to the new residence context. Their strategies form part of their migratory project, in which another set of variables are considered, such as age, sex and professional, legal and civil status in Spain. Among them, we also include the country of origin in a relevant way because the perception of the habitat is clearly influenced by their original culture.
