The article examines the peculiar exclusion of the tribe of Levi from the inheritance of the land, a fact that seems to contrast with the promise God made to Abraham. It analyzes Numbers 18:20, where YHWH declares that He Himself is the inheritance of Aaron and his sons, instead of a portion of land. The research addresses fundamental questions about the theological and social reasons behind this divine provision, exploring how this unique system in Israel would highlight the priests’ total dependence on God, thus emphasizing their special role in the community. Through an exegetical and theological approach, it is revealed that the true inheritance of the descendants of Levi is the divine presence, offering new perspectives on the meaning of inheritance and possession in the biblical tradition.
