The goal of perinatal palliative care is to prevent and treat the physical, psychological, social and spiritual distress of fetuses and newborn infants with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions, and their families. This interdisciplinary approach begins with diagnosis (often during pregnancy) and continues into death and bereavement. Although these families experience emotional distress, most parents value the opportunity to love, meet and care for their child positively.
