In the last few years, a deep interest in the Arctic Ocean has arisen because of the melting caused by climate change. The opening of new trade routes, the discovery of energy deposits or their possible use as a strategic point in the event of a conflict, has drawn the attention of experts of all kinds. The potential of this region has been accompanied since the beginning of the Cold War by a greater military presence, pointing to a possible conflict in the not-so-distant future. This paper will, precisely, analyze this possible military escalation, studying the relationship between the level of militarization in the region and its importance at an economic and strategic level.
