Abstract

This paper examines the need for horizontal and vertical coordination amongst university academic staff, in a field in which the prevalence of maximum autonomy is usually synonymous with lack of coordination. The duties of coordination on the part of Department Heads, Deans and Directors of Studies in the Articles of Government, General Regulations and Mission and Vision documents of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid are analyzed. Some deficiencies are pointed out and some proposals are finally put forward in order to plan, implement and progressively improve horizontal and vertical coordination in educational issues. The need for the sensitization of the academic staff and the indispensable initiative corresponding to those holding posts of responsibility at the University are also emphasised.
