Abstract

With the passing of the Spanish University Law (LOU: Ley Orgánica de Universidades, 2001) the external evaluation of candidates for a teaching post meeting the new profiles in order to be hired by the Universities has become a legal requirement. The paper describes how this evaluation is carried out in Spain at the hands of the example of the evaluation system of the Agency for Quality, Accreditation and Prospective of the Universities of Madrid (ACAP). Furthermore it analyses the process from two different perspectives: the one of the candidates undergoing an evaluation, and the one from the evaluators, in each case stressing its appropriateness.
