Abstract

The first part of this article deals with some theoretical reflections on the importance of active learning in higher education. In the context of the European Higher Education Space, new student-centered learning approaches should be promoted. For that purpose, problem-based learning becomes an appropriate educational approach. The second part describes the underlying philosophy, the basic components and the instructional sequence of this innovative approach.
