Edward Martyn’s «debt» to Ibsen and his work An Enemy of the People
Keywords:

In this article I will try to show how the influence of the play An Enemy of the People, by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, on the play The Heather Field, by Irish playwright Edward Martyn, so far never analysed in a sufficiently detailed way, is too obvious and pervasive to not be taken into account. In this way, An Enemy of the People, together with Ibsen’s The Wild Duck, The Master Builder, Ghosts, John Gabriel Borkman, Rosmersholm and Little Eyolf can be counted as influences on The Heather Field.References
