Abstract

After a preliminary explanation of the actual meaning of financial technology (FinTech) in financial markets and industry, and its potential to change these, within the first part of this writing, its second part examines the distributed-ledger technology (DLT) and its underlying crypto-technology (Blockchain) as a paradigm of the transforming power of FinTech startups and devices. The third part of this paper is devoted to outline the factors accelerating and impeding the global expansion of FinTech, according to recent international reports, as well as their impact on financial markets and on final users of banking services and lending facilities, emphasizing the peculiarities observed in the case of Spain.
