Abstract

This paper is the summary of some of the findings of a research on insertion in the educational sphere, mainly kindergarden and primary school of the children of extra-european immigrant families in an area of Catalonia. The research was undertaken during the academic year 2001-2002 in schools with immigrant pupils. The purpose of the research was to describe the reality of educational practices, that is, the policies undertaken by schools that were related to the new pupils and, on the other hand, the interaction between immigrant families and the broader educational framework. In this paper we present some characteristics of educational insertion that are related with ongoing ethnification processes amogst migrant populations.
