Abstract

This article sets down the theoretical framework and the empirical evidence for the development of a model on the social integration of immigrants (SII) and its empirical validation by way of a meso perspective which takes into account the material and social surroundings in which SII takes place. This perspective incorporates as central variables the actual contexts of immigration and the density of the social networks. This approach is substantiated with the study of the SII in migration locations or social networks which are a result of migratory flows of diverse sign —returnees, international, national— in order to unravel the processes which surround the SII in those places in comparison with other contexts in which such a high concentration and interconnection of individuals with different migratory experiences are not present.
