METIS: Journal of Strategic Autonomy and International Affairs invites the submission of original research articles for forthcoming issues.

Published by the Department of International Relations at Comillas Pontifical University (Madrid, Spain), METIS is a peer-reviewed, Diamond Open Access journal dedicated to advancing scholarly debate on the major political, economic, security, technological, and societal transformations shaping the contemporary international system.

The journal provides an international forum for high-quality theoretical and empirical research examining the dynamics of global politics from a broad range of disciplinary, theoretical, and methodological perspectives. METIS welcomes contributions that deepen our understanding of international affairs while promoting dialogue across different paradigms and approaches.

The journal is particularly interested in the concept of strategic autonomy, understood as the growing capacity of states, regional organisations, and other international actors to make strategic decisions while reducing external dependencies. Beyond this core theme, METIS welcomes contributions addressing the broader transformations of international order, global governance, geopolitical competition, international cooperation, conflict, and the relationship between domestic and international political processes.

Submissions are welcomed from scholars working in International Relations, Political Science, European Studies, Strategic Studies, Security Studies, International Political Economy, Comparative Politics, Political Theory, International Sociology, Development Studies, and related disciplines.

The journal operates under a Diamond Open Access model. There are no submission fees or article processing charges (APCs). All manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process based on originality, scholarly relevance, and methodological rigour.

Researchers at all career stages are warmly invited to submit their work.

Call for Proposals Special Issues

METIS: Journal of Strategic Autonomy and International Affairs invites proposals for Special Issues to be published in forthcoming volumes of the journal.

Published by the Department of International Relations at Comillas Pontifical University (Madrid, Spain), METIS is an international, peer-reviewed, Diamond Open Access journal committed to advancing innovative research on the evolving dynamics of international affairs.

The journal welcomes proposals for Special Issues that bring together cutting-edge scholarship on topics within the broad field of International Relations and related disciplines. Special Issues are intended to foster international collaboration, promote emerging research agendas, and stimulate dialogue across different theoretical traditions and methodological approaches.

METIS particularly welcomes proposals addressing themes related to strategic autonomy, international order, global governance, foreign policy, security and defence, geopolitical competition, regional integration, international political economy, democracy, international norms, and the interaction between domestic and international politics. Interdisciplinary proposals that contribute to understanding contemporary global challenges are especially encouraged.

Proposal Guidelines
Special Issue proposals should include:

• A provisional title.
• A statement of purpose (approximately 1,000 words) explaining the originality, scholarly relevance, and objectives of the proposed Special Issue.
• A description of how the proposal fits within the aims and scope of METIS.
• The names, institutional affiliations, and short biographies of the proposed Guest Editor(s).
• A provisional list of expected contributions and contributing authors (where available).
• A proposed timetable covering manuscript submission, peer review, revision, and publication.

The Editorial Board welcomes proposals from established and emerging scholars worldwide and particularly encourages collaborative initiatives involving researchers from different institutions, countries, and disciplinary backgrounds.

All manuscripts included in Special Issues will undergo the journal's standard double-blind peer-review process and will be evaluated according to the same standards of originality, scholarly relevance, and methodological rigour as regular submissions.

METIS operates under a Diamond Open Access model. No submission fees or article processing charges (APCs) are required for either Guest Editors or authors.

The Editorial Board looks forward to receiving proposals that contribute to advancing international scholarly debate and to consolidating METIS as a forum for innovative research on international affairs.
