This brief but dense text describes the result of an academic relationship, that of a doctoral student with his thesis supervisor, which is not always easy, but which in the specific case of Manuel Gil turned out to be profoundly rich and fertile. A relationship between academics, in which his supervisor, in addition to accompanying Manuel’s rigorous intellectual commitment, passionately engaged in tracing and rescuing the socio-historical construction of social work in Spain, gave rise to a deep friendship between the two.
