After having analysed the lack of legislation dealing with sworn translators and interpreters, the main purpose of this research is to draw up a proposal about the creation of a professional association of sworn translator-interpreters and to analyse its viability and usefulness. This proposal is based on current relevant legislation in Spain, as the Law 2/1974 regarding professional associations. On the basis of this legal framework, the proposal has been adapted in order to create a professional association that provides regulation and visibility to these professionals. Finally, we summarize the current situation to understand what this professional association would result in and the possible problems that would come together with its creation.
