Abstract

When someone is born, is immediately classified as male or female child. From that moment on, the most part of messages that they receive as for example the way they are treated or how we talk to them, etc. will be slanted by this first classification. These messages are integrated in the complex process of socialization, especially in infancy.  The influence of the main socialization agents (family, media and school) on the learning and internalization of gender roles is analyzed in this article. At the end, it is considered some alternatives that will limit stereotyped transmission of identities and relationships.
