Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to reflect the reality of families that are currently experiencing the intellectual disability of their children. It delves into the life experience of nine families with children with intellectual disabilities between 7 and 26 years old. Through their life stories, the fundamental milestones of the reception of a child's intellectual disability in the family system are addressed, as well as the main challenges.

Doctora en Educación por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, con calificación de Sobresaliente Cum Laude, Premio Extraordinario y Reconocimiento a la Mejor Tesis UAM 2018 Inclusión y Sociedad. Actualmente, ocupa su principal puesto profesional como Directora del Colegio de Educación Especial, que compagina con la experiencia docente universitaria en la Universidad Pontificia Comillas y la Universidad Villanueva.
