Abstract

This article is about the current situation of second language learning in colleges and its influence in the professional world. It also includes the personal experiences of a North American student who began teaching English as a foreign language in various Spanish schools, specifically in Madrid. Through this, the reader will be able to see different types of methodologies, from communicative methods to even the most eclectic ones, however all the methods have the common goal of succeeding in teaching languages to primary and secondary students successfully, especially Spanish and English.

There is also major emphasis put on learning about the culture by acquiring a complete understanding in order to participate fully in the learning process. Language and culture play a key role in second language learning and that’s why a specialist or native can favor the communication between the two languages for the student.
