This article reviews the concept of psychological maturity and its relevance to education. We discuss the different components of psychological maturity (work orientation, self-reliance and identity) and the profiles of adolescents with reference to these components. We pay particular attention to the concept of pseudomaturity and its implications, and also explain the relationship between maturity and such other variables as behavioural problems, academic performance and substance abuse.Downloads
