Abstract

The article presents some basic guidelines for proper assessment of intelligence and cognitive skills tests. The authors emphasize the need for 1) an adequate theoretical knowledge about cognitive and intellectual assessment, 2) an applied knowledge of best practices in the use and interpretation of intelligence tests and 3) the availability of well-developed and standardized tests according to the scientific standards required in the area. In addition, the authors attempt to clarify the meaning of concepts such as "general intelligence", "g factor" and "IQ". Finally, they provide a basic description of the "Test de Inteligencia General, Matrices" as a good example of intelligence test that meets these requirements.
