Abstract

María Montessori is one of the more representative figures of modern pedagogy. Her pedagogy was based on the generation of a good learning background through the materials needed by the children and adapted to their sizes. She wanted children to be active in their learning process and to take part in every action. In her opinion, teachers had to be watchers, that is to say, not to give rules all the time but to watch their behaviour. She related nature with learning, defending the contact the student should have with the environment. We should point out the fact that senses take a big part at this method since children are seen as workers who are concentrated on what they are making.
