Abstract

The aim of the present paper is a reflection on the relations between the philosophy of Geology and Religion. With this purpose, the writing titled Vindication of Geology is analyzed. This document was published in 1835 by the eminent mining engineer Casiano de Prado y Vallo (1797-1866). The article studies the reasons that moved Prado to write it, the historical-scientific context and the content itself. The first catastrophist ideas of Georges Cuvier ware presented in the year 1812. As a result of the analysis of Prado’s writing, the present article concludes that the arguments used by Prado to defend the sciences of nature, specially the Geology, from the attacks of representative authors of religious integrism in the first part of the XIX Century
