Abstract

The article attempts to determine the idea of religion in Hobbes and its political importance. Leviathan (I, 12) is analyzed. The natural and psychological origin of religion among the gentiles is mentioned and also the supremacy of christianity as a revealed religion. First of all, the criticism of Hobbes of pagan religion as pure superstition is reviewed. Secondly, the criticism of the language of christian theology as absurd. And, at the end, the view of christianity of Hobbes, according to wich there are only two fundamental precepts: To believe that Jesus is Christ and to obey the law. With this, religión is reduced only to the obedience of subjects to their sovereign
