In this paper, I present a classification of ethical theories about abortion. In this classification, I use two criteria that, although inseparable, can be deemed dissociated from each other. Firstly, I present an array of theories ordered according to the ontological and ethical status they grant to gametes, zygotes, pre-embryos, embryos, fetuses, and neonates, and I discuss the theories based on the idea of potentiality. Then, I refer to theories centered on mother’s freedom. In the concluding remarks, I explicitly recognize the partisanship of the proposed theory of theories.
