The exceptional character of the gorgian «areté»: On the need to review the determinations of the aristotelic political concretions

We explore the enumerative character that, as in «Gorgias», has the notion of areté politiké in aristotelic method of analysis of the pólis components. To the socratic question «and will not virtue, as virtue, be the same, whether in a child or in a grown-up person, in a woman or in a man?», Meno’s answer was: «that this case is different from the others» — that is to say, it is not a case as that of other qualities as force or health. We show that a phaenomenology of the excepcionality of the notion of areté turns out to be a good introduction to the political ideas of Aristotle. That explains the apparent paradox
that a slave’s areté should be superior to that of the free agent who prospers without being able to gain time for leisure and to grow towards rational fullness; the slave takes root in the oíkos that is maximazed in the areté of the house, i.e. the areté that a master demonstrates by means of his action in the pólis.
