A theological reading of the film The Matrix, by the Wachowski sisters

Between 29 and 31 May 2019, a conference on the challenges of transhumanism to the society of the future was held at Comillas University, Madrid. In August 2019 the fourth installment of the film The Matrix, a science fiction film written and directed by the Wachowski sisters whose background is transhumanism, was announced. The first instalment of The Matrix, released in the United States in 1999, 20 years ago, has not lost its liveliness and continues to be the subject of debate. Although Matrix has now become a series of cult films, its plot draws parallels with cultural (video games), religious (Judeo-Christian), philosophical (Buddhism and post-modernity) and ideological (Baudrillard) concepts. Here we present some keys for a Judeo- Christian theological reading of it.Downloads
