Spirituality is essential to integral human development as understood by Catholic Social Thought. Without personal and communal human agency, something that only comes from spirituality, development work will never succeed. Ignatian spirituality is particularly effective for empowering those who suffer from poverty and marginalization. This can be illustrated through the ministry of Fr. Rutilio Grande, S.J. Each week of the Spiritual Exercises can serve to guide a community through increasing levels of responsibility and, ultimately, integral human development.Downloads
