Science vs. Bewilderment
Keywords:
paradigms, anomie, serendipity, humanistic and social sciences, multidisciplinaryAbstract
The Covid-19 pandemic development entailed an unprecedented fragmentation of the current scientific paradigms. Its erratic spread sowing death, suffering, and dependence to millions of human lives pushed us towards unknown and dysfunctional domains. Lacking certainties, guidelines, and appropriate institutions it has been hard to overcome the pandemic. The new situation fits conceptually with what sociologists call “anomie”, a kind of normative absence and social disjunction. The traditional empirical sciences show obvious deficiencies in combating Covid-19. The author proposes to bridge scientific and humanistic disciplines in order to generate relevant questions that may allow us to reach the necessary answer to the pandemic.
