Abstract

Since Cuba is the country where the Spanish arrived first and left last, it could be said that it is the most Spanish of all the countries that were under Spanish rule throughout history. Columbus arrived from Castile on 28 October 1492, thinking it was Cipango (Japan). Colonisation was undertaken by DiegoVelázquez. José Martí, born in Havana to Spanish parents, is considered the moral leader of independence. Cuba is notable for its production of high-quality tobacco and sugar cane.
