Fernando Sánchez Toscano describes the developmental stage (3-6 years) as the period in which children seek to assert themselves as individuals and adapt socially. To explain this, he draws on three areas: psychomotor skills, language and intuitive knowledge. In the first three years, egocentrism and imagination predominate and evolve progressively. They assert their identity through negativism and independence, and they acquire emotionality by feeling loved and through the trust that adults convey to them.
