From 19 to 23 April 1993, schools in Galicia celebrated the 5th Press Week in Schools. And what better way to mark this occasion than to take a look back at the key moments in the introduction of “press in schools” by various countries around the world. Thus, from 1975 to the present day, many newspapers and various institutions have been developing this press-school partnership. Padres y Maestros (Parents and Teachers) was one of the first Spanish institutions to develop it. In 1975, it published the supplement ‘Prensa didáctica’ (Educational Press). UNESCO, the Club of Rome and the European Parliament have published a document indicating the urgent priority objectives for European schools in the 1990s. It may be a good initiative to discuss the extent to which the press in schools can contribute to achieving these objectives.
