Drawing on an initiative at the Valsassina School in Lisbon, in which teachers and parents are involved, the article explores how the teaching of mathematics can go beyond the subject’s didactics to teach children how to think. It reviews strategies by year group, such as play, problem-solving and the relationship between language and mathematics, and proposes a questionnaire to compare the views of educators and families.
