Based on a study carried out in 1987 involving Spanish children aged between 6 and 14, the article provides an overview of their reading habits: how they access books, what factors influence whether they are given books as gifts or buy them themselves, where they purchase them, and which genres, characters, authors and series they prefer. The data, presented in tables by gender and age, highlight the importance of receiving books as gifts, the influence of friends, teachers and parents, and the significance of bookshops as a place of purchase.
