This essay portrays current efforts in transformative education from the perspective of a teacher education working at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. The author compels us to consider teacher education from a professional development school model whereby a community of learners is created with the purpose of providing a well-rounded education for all children. The author proposes the use of Art Costa’s Habits of Mind and Thomas Jackson’s Philosophy of Children strategies to ensure a caring and courageous education that empowers students to reach their full potential and become active participants in a fair and democratic society.Downloads
