Ortega y Gasset, interpreter and expositor of the History of Philosophy

Abstract

After being just published the canonical edition of Ortega y Gasset’s complete works, wecan see that the philosopher never wrote about the History of Philosophy. Nevertheless, it is remarkableto know that it was treated by the main members of the socalled Escuela de Madrid, who doubtless were influenced by him; for example we can mention Julian Marías, X. Zubiri, José Gaos and Manuel García Morente, with whom he had a close relation. In this article, we will talk about the importance that the History of Philosophy had in Ortega’s theories; as well as pointing the main ideas that any philosophical work, which studies the historical flight of Minerva’s owl, should have.
