El contenido teológico del “Cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo” divide a los exegetas católicos. Unos sostienen que solo se habla en él de inocencia y santidad. Otros, por su parte, creen que se anuncia también la muerte redentora del Mesías. La diferencia sustancial consiste en admitir o excluir el sentido de víctima de la metáfora. Con todo, es importante y subrayar el papel soteriológico de esta afirmación.
