Abstract

The article studies how the apostolic Fathers (Didache, Epistle of Barnabas, Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, The Shepherd of Hermas, the Second Epistle of Clement, To Diognetus) conceived and expressed the unity between Father, Son and, where he is present, Spirit. From the analysis of their texts, even with differences, a substantial convergence appears: these authors clearly profess monotheism and at the same time conceive of Father, Son and Spirit (or Father and Son) as united. Therefore, they see in God a plurality, which they express in different ways. For example, insisting that the Son is God, defining in a particular way his generation, showing the synergy of the three in their actions, although they do not yet explore the trinitarian reality in depth.
