Se examinan las doctrinas de Santo Tomás y Suárez, gran discípulo del primero, en la cuestión fundamental acerca de la naturaleza de la gracia excitante. Dicho debate consistiría en averiguar qué es a lo que se refieren con llamada “gracia excitante”, con respecto a la cual Suárez juzga y prueba que son las ilustraciones del entendimiento e inspiraciones de la voluntad, conscientes y, por tanto, vitales, que inducen a los actos saludables o conducentes a la vida eterna.
