The Mercy in Contemporary art
Keywords:
Mercy, Avant-garde, XXth Century art, Sacred art, Contemporary artAbstract
This article is not only a classification of artists and the works of the XX Century dedicated to mercy in painting as well as in sculpture, it is not a comprehensive work in that sense. It presents a series of suggestions from the polysemia essential to the discourses relating to how mercy in contemporary art has become clear through the plastic creation of the last century, even despite the artist’s own intention. Furthermore, in this work, those artists dedicated to holy or devotional art have been set aside, while searching on behalf of certain works that, however out of this scope, could result to be important by attending to mercy in a society where religion has gradually been banished to the general circuits of aesthetic creation.
