Abstract

The ethical proposals of K.-O. Apel in Europe and E. Dussel in Latin America are two of the most compelling current efforts to overcome the modern solipsism. However, the opening to the Other and the consequent solidary responsibility are understood differently. Hence we think that the deep and critical dialogue between these two ethics could be of great interest with respect to the reflection on the foundation of ethics. Therefore, the matter introduced through out these pages presents the dialogue between discourse ethics (Apel) and liberation ethics (Dussel), explaining their strengths and weaknesses, their convergences and divergences, and, above all, their enriching (yet conflicting) complementarity.
