This study intersectionally analyzes the migration trajectories of 30 African women in transit contexts at the Nador border (Morocco, January-May 2024). The research explores how the intersection of gender, migration status, and structural violence shapes the experiences and life plans of African women during their migration journeys. Through semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis with MAXQDA, key patterns were identified: (1) the persistence of prevailing gender norms in their countries of origin determines the scope of action for these women; (2) gender-based violence combines with xenophobia and Moroccan police control, creating heightened vulnerabilities; and (3) African women’s aspirations focus on economic stability, fundamental rights, and family well-being. Spain and France are emerging as symbolic destinations of protection and opportunities. This intersectional analysis of migration paths highlights the limited agency of these women and underscores the need for gender-sensitive intersectional migration policies in transit contexts.
