The «Ignatian Dogmatic» from the Point of View of the «Ignatian Christian Life»

Abstract

The present article offers a commentary on the volume Dogmática Ignaciana, published in collaboration among 13 experts. It adopts the perspective of the relationship between experience and reflection, in symphony with recent developments in a certain area of research in the Ignatian tradition. It first seeks, just as the book does, to establish the relationship between Ignatian experience and Ignatian dogmatic theology; it then interprets that relationship from another perspective and, on this basis, comments on the 17 contributions brought together in the book. Thus, in conjunction with and thanks to its publication, a new paradigm is proposed, which transforms the so-called «Ignatian spirituality», proper to a Christendom worldview, into «Ignatian Christian life», more suitable for the present-day post-Christian era. It repurposes the traditional focus on the relationship between Christian experience and theological reflection, from the perspective of the process of decision-making.
