Abstract

This year marks the fourth centenary of the death of Clavius, a German Jesuit, professor at the Roman College, whose influence through his students conquered the very heart of the imperial court in Beijing. Professor and researcher, friend and protector of Galileo, architect of the reform of the Gregorian calendar and enthusiast of mathematics and geography. With him began the Jesuit scientific tradition.
