Con motivo de las negociaciones para la cesión de la colección Thyssen-Bornemisza a Madrid, el comentario analizó las características y singularidad de esta colección, así como las distintas posibilidades para su ubicación. El texto defendió que se daban unas circunstancias excepcionales para reorganizar las principales colecciones de pintura de la capital y reforzar su proyección internacional. Una adecuada reestructuración e instalación de estos fondos permitiría convertir a Madrid en una referencia mundial de la pintura, con importantes beneficios tanto culturales como económicos.
