Abstract

El deterioro económico registrado en América Latina provocó un notable descenso en el bienestar infantil y generó consecuencias de gran alcance para el desarrollo de la niñez y la juventud. Problemas como la desnutrición materna, el bajo peso al nacer, la insuficiente alimentación, las deficientes condiciones sanitarias, la inestabilidad familiar, las carencias educativas y el elevado número de menores huérfanos o abandonados limitaron el desarrollo físico y mental de los niños, reduciendo sus oportunidades futuras de mejora social y económica.
