About the Journal

Razón y Fe was founded in 1901 by the Society of Jesus. It is the oldest culture magazine in Spain, as well as one of the oldest in the Spanish language. It has been published uninterruptedly since then, including the periods of the expulsion of the Society of Jesus and the Spanish Civil War. Since its foundation, it has tried to reconcile the two elements that make up its title, facilitating dialogue between the Christian faith and the different rationalities that are manifested in culture.

In 2018 Razón y Fe joined the Hana and Francisco José Ayala Center of Science, Technology and Religion (CTR Center) at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, and since 2023 it has been transformed into an academic journal.

Published every six months, it is a scientific journal whose objective is interdisciplinary dialogue between the various sciences—natural, social and human—and philosophical and theological reflection.

The contents of Razón y Fe are indexed in the databases MLA - Modern Language Association Database, DIALNET, OpenAlex and evaluated in CARHUS Plus+ 2018, Latindex and MIAR.

Focus and Scope

Razón y Fe is characterized by being a journal of research and divulgation of knowledge, understanding research as any work that provides well-founded novelty and that contributes to scientific progress and constructive dialogue between disciplines.

Articles should deal with current topics that are relevant to interdisciplinary dialogue on science and religion. Legitimate methodological and approach pluralism will be respected, with the quality and divulgation of research as its main commitment.

Open Access Policy

Razón y Fe is a journal that offers diamond open access to its content—it has no costs for reading or publishing—based on the principle that offering society free access to research contributes to the global exchange of knowledge.

Articles are published after a blind peer review process, and can be shared and disseminated free of charge thanks to the generous support of the CTR Center and the Universidad Pontificia Comillas Publications.

Peer review process

To gain transparency and for the information of the authors, this is the procedure for evaluating the articles received by the journal Razón y Fe.

1. Reception

Items are received at any time of the year preferably in Spanish, although English, Italian and French are also accepted.

When received:

  1. The author(s) are acknowledged.
  2. Editors checks if it observes the guidelines: citation style, abstract and key words in Spanish and English, etc. If not, it is returned to the author to be adapted within a maximum period of one week.

2. First step. Editorial Board (About 15 days)

A member of the editorial board carries out an initial check to decide whether to initiate the formal evaluation. The author is informed of the decision, with justification if the result is negative. In this case, the review process is not continued and the article is rejected.

3. Second step. Peer review (About 8 weeks)

An external peer evaluation process is carried out with the double-blind procedure. The evaluators do not know the name of the author of the articles they evaluate.

If accepted by both, it is published.

In case of rejection by both, it is not published.

In the event that both recommend improvements and new revision, the author is informed synthetically and anonymously of the suggestions, and the process is restarted with the same evaluators after receipt of the new original.

In the event of a significant discrepancy, a third or even a fourth trial is requested.

The editor, after consulting the Editorial Board in cases of discrepancy, will be the one who ultimately decides on the publication of the articles. The author will be informed of the result of the evaluation with the indication, even if accepted, of possible suggestions for improvement.

Upon receipt of the final version, the issue of the journal in which the article will be published is communicated.

To assist evaluators, they are provided with a digital evaluation form.

4. Reviewers

Depending on the subject matter of the articles, the editorial board and the editor will look for qualified external national and international reviewers. The list of evaluators who have participated in evaluation processes throughout a calendar year will be published on the website.

History

Founded by Societaty of Jesus in 1901, Razón y fe is the oldest cultural journal in Spain and one of the oldest in the Spanish-speaking world. It has been published without interruption, even during significant events like the expulsion of the Society of Jesus and the Spanish Civil War. Since its inception, the journal has aimed to bridge the two elements in its title, fostering dialogue between the Christian faith and the diverse expressions of culture. Since 2023, within the context of an increasingly technified society marked by remarkable scientific advancements, the journal has focused exclusively on fostering dialogue between the natural, social, and human sciences and philosophical and theological reflection.
